“What do you get if you mix Kate Bush with circus-cabaret music and free jazz? The Malmö band Cure-a-Phobia is a possible answer to that question” – Ralph Bretzer, Skånska dagbladet

Jenny Nilsson: Lead vocals and songwriting
Fanny Gunnarsson: Piano, accordion and vocals
Daniel Cederskär: Bass clarinet
Elina Nygren: Viola

How Town (Amsterdam, NL)

Sarah Klenes: voice

Elina Silova: voice

Laura Polence: voice

Lennart Heyndels: double bass and composition

*

HOW TOWN is an international ensemble led by composer/bassist Lennart Heyndels performing vocal music. The group was founded in Amsterdam. HOW TOWN combines today’s popular music with the intricacies of classical music and the freedom of jazz. The main focus of the ensemble lies in the exploration of new ways in which the voice can be used within this multi-style context.

The ensemble came into existence in 2012 when Lennart Heyndels composed a suite based on the E.E. Cummings poem ‘Anyone lived in a pretty how town’ during a six-month stay in Paris. The goal was to make an accessible music without giving up the complexity of concert music. Heavily influenced by the indie-rock scene of the day mixed together with formal jazz training, the sound of HOW TOWN doesn’t fit into one genre, but perhaps defines one of its own, “contemporary multi-style post-pop”.

Cactus Truck creates startlingly intense music, not merely in terms of volume or velocity but through completephysical/psychological surrender. One can find hints of delta blues, early free jazz, Japanese noise, and no wave in the music. They have also collaborated with Terrie Ex, Ab Baars, Han Bennink, Jeb Bishop, Jon Rune Strøm, and others.

Cactus Truck have a brand new release on the NOT TWO label, entitled Seizures Palace (2014).

die Teilnahmerei presents: THE BLOCKS a new collective exhibition /// performance

english and italian versions follow

Die TeilnahmeRei presents THE BLOCKS

Sometimes we force ourselves into a

    not-motivating life

because we fear the difficulties that we might have to face in the moment we want to

                                    change something.

We convince ourselves of the extreme difficulty or even of the impossibility to realize our ideas. Why?
So now we should tell to you, just because you are beautiful…??

We think that there are two levels of “blocks” that influence our behaviours:

Level 1.0 – “Internal” 8 scala B third flour, the intercome is broken, please knock at the door: past experiences, selfdefence mechanisms, built identity (ego).
Level 2.0 – “External”:
social identity, social conventions, cultur/morality, micro-comunity, social identification.

In our lives, we don ́t do anything to invert the course of things because our “sly” and “self-righteous” mind avoids us, through different tricks, from making
– even only a small step –

We choose to sobstitute practical things with theory and words, we abstract them from reality and from their tactile aspect, trasmorming them into something “gassy” and “unreachable”.
For this reason then, we justify and convince ourselves of the impossibility to touch them ( realize them ).

If then, subcounsciously, we give something practical a try, we can be surprised of the simplicity of making certain things.

Sometimes we need just a small action,

                                     some "movement"

that unblocks us from the atrophy.
Like a muscle that for a long time hasn ́t been moved the “first movement” to restart is the most difficult.

                                 As "first movement" we,
                                productive-time ́s losers,

mean the first practical step of a perceivable, tangible and “smell-ble” creation.

Something that can be touched, told and really experienced.
The first movement is to break the theory, the images created by our brain, jump out the centrifugal loop.
To slow down, to break, to step in.

Until when we will stay inside the theory, everything can be done or not done, we don ́t feel the risks because we don ́t face the practical side.

We develop a mental mechanism that doesn ́t make us accept the gap between expectation and real experience.

What blocks us? Which are our blocks? Where do they come from?

How do they effect us? How can we beat them?

Our way of working is collectiv and singolar at the same time, we start from ourselves to decostruct, modify and integrate together with everyone.

We move from our dreams, from the believing in something, we are the ones who give importance and meaning to what we do.
Who doesn ́t believe in anything how does
he/she/it
spend
his/her/its
days?

We can not please ourselves with a mediocrity interpreted as an *emotional sedative*,
but we have to rediscover (channel) the indescribable magic of seeying something realized and that can change
even just for few hours ours and others ́ lives.

We would like to prepare a collective exibition that, through any kind of “artistical” way, expresses the suggested topic. The result wants to be a collective rapresentation of our singularities.
To reflect, discuss and imagine togheter its shapes, creating armony between our ideas,
practicing togheter “another” doing.

——————————————-§§§§§§§§§§§————————————————-

Rallentare, spezzare, rompere, intervenire.

Come possiamo superarli?

“altro” fare.
